LAKE FYANS art series

Inspired by the painterly, textural effects created by trees, water and Mother Nature

I visited Lake Fyans, a small reservoir in the Grampians National Park, where at the edge of the lake I found inspiration for this series of photographic artworks in the detail of trees, shrubs, and vegetation near the shore.

The absence of sky or land in the compositions results in unique, painterly interpretations of just trees, water, and reflections of the surrounding landscape, presenting abstractions of nature that create other places in the viewers imagination.

Each artwork features watery textures awash with the intense energy of deep or bright colour; mysterious magenta, ocean blue, forest green and earthy palettes–making strong statements about ordinary locations taking us to otherworldly places. There is a sense of movement in these detail-rich works and at the same time, complete stillness – encouraging contemplation, and reflection.
